Invitation message generator
Fill in your details once and get copy-ready invitation messages for WhatsApp, SMS, email and print.
The wording on this page comes from the InviteVia invitation message library — the same collections published in full at /invitation-messages. Instead of copying a template and editing it by hand, you enter your names, date, time, venue and RSVP link once, and every channel updates with your details filled in.
Each output has its own character counter because each channel fails differently. An SMS splits into billable segments the moment it crosses a limit, and a message with an emoji or a non-Latin script switches from 160-character GSM-7 to 70-character UCS-2. The counters use those real limits, not a rough word count.

Counts update as you type. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent from this page — the WhatsApp and SMS buttons open your own app with the message already filled in.
How to use it
- 1Choose the occasion and the tone. The generator picks the closest message in the library for each channel and tells you which one it used.
- 2Enter the host names, the guest's name, the date, the time and the venue. The guest name and the RSVP link are optional; empty fields stay as clear bracketed labels rather than breaking the sentence.
- 3Read the WhatsApp, SMS, email and printed-card outputs. Each one shows a live character count and the limit that matters for that channel.
- 4Use the copy button for any channel, or open the message straight in WhatsApp or your SMS app. Everything is URL-encoded, so punctuation, emoji and line breaks survive.
- 5If a counter warns that the message is over a limit, shorten the venue or the greeting — the library's shorter examples are a good starting point.
How the maths works
The generator does not write new copy. It selects the closest message in the library for the chosen occasion, tone and channel, then fills the placeholders with your details. When the library has no exact match for an occasion and channel, the closest example is used and the card says so, so you can read it before sending.
SMS counting follows the GSM 03.38 standard. Text made only of GSM-7 characters fits 160 septets in one message and 153 per segment after that; characters such as € or [ cost two septets. Any character outside that set — Turkish ğ, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew or an emoji — switches the whole message to UCS-2: 70 code units in one message, 67 per segment, with an emoji counted as two.
WhatsApp's per-message limit is 65,536 characters. The email subject counter uses the 78-character line guideline from RFC 5322, and the printed-card row uses a 100-character guideline for a single readable line. Those last two are typographic guidelines, not platform limits, and the interface labels them as such.
- SMS: 160 GSM-7 characters, then 153 per segment
- SMS: 70 UCS-2 code units, then 67 per segment
- WhatsApp: 65,536 characters per message
- Email subject: 78-character guideline; printed card line: 100-character guideline
A worked example
A wedding with the details filled in, generated from the library's friendly wording:
- WhatsApp source
- Warm invitation to a family member
- WhatsApp characters
- 266
- SMS encoding
- GSM-7 (138 units)
- SMS segments
- 1 segment
- Email subject
- Wedding invitation for Jordan — Saturday, June 20, 2026
- Email subject characters
- 55
- Printed card line
- Alex & Sam request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of Alex & Sam on Saturday, June 20,…
The counts are produced by the same functions the tool runs, so they update with the library. Add an emoji to the same SMS and the encoding switches to UCS-2, which is why the segment count can jump without the visible message getting much longer.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the message wording come from?
From the InviteVia invitation message library at /invitation-messages. The generator picks the closest example for your occasion, tone and channel and fills in your details. It does not invent new copy, and the library page itself is unchanged.
Why does my SMS count change when I add an emoji?
Emoji and non-Latin characters cannot be sent as GSM-7, so the whole message switches to UCS-2. That drops the single-message limit from 160 to 70 code units and the per-segment limit from 153 to 67, and an emoji itself counts as two code units.
Are the character limits real or estimates?
The SMS and WhatsApp limits are platform limits. The email subject and printed-card figures are typographic guidelines (78 and 100 characters) and are labelled as such in the interface, because neither channel enforces a hard limit at that length.
Does the generator send the message for me?
No. Copy puts the text on your clipboard, and the WhatsApp and SMS buttons open your own app with the message prefilled. Nothing is sent from this page and nothing is uploaded or stored.
What if the library has no message for my occasion?
The card shows which library example it used and whether the occasion and tone are an exact match. For occasions the library does not cover yet, read the closest example before sending it — the wording may mention a wedding where you need a birthday.
Ready to send the invitation itself?
InviteVia turns your plan into a digital invitation with RSVP collection, guest messaging and a link you can share or print as a QR code.
